Presented at the Rome Film Fest, in the Freestyle Arts section,
Stile Alberto is a journey to discover Alberto Arbasino (1930-2020), one of the greatest
postwar Italian writers and a unique figure in national culture. Brilliant and
ruthless on the page, worldly and ironic in the salons, reserved in his private life: Arbasino
was an intellectual, journalist, member of parliament, dandy, and an idol for generations of readers.
Led by Michele Masneri, author of the book of the same name on which the film is based (published by
Quodlibet in 2021), Stile Alberto interweaves archival materials, unreleased footage, and
testimony from friends, family, and intellectuals, reconstructing the many worlds that Arbasino
inhabited: from the “Gruppo 63” years to politics, from his relationships with Pasolini and Visconti
to his unmistakable elegance, and his enduring bond with his partner Stefano. The documentary is produced by Maria Carolina Terzi, Lorenza, Carlo, and Luciano Stella with Luca Guadagnino.
